Christina & Brett - Fun in the Sun

Kim and I had the pleasure of traveling to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk recently, to photograph the lovely Christina and Brett. It was the first really nice day, after days of rain, and Christina and Brett came ready to play! We had the best time...take a look! We started on the vintage carousel.

Next, came the infamous Sea Swings!

N: Y'know...Kim and I are a lot like our happily married couples. We each bring a different perspective to the partnership. That being said, I got this shot from the ground...

N: ...while Kim got this shot from her seat on the Sea Swings!
K: Trying to get this shot was crazy hard. Okay - I was just coming off being sick and the thought of getting into that swing was a little daunting for my stomach... Then the momentum of the swing made it almost impossible for me to turn around. AND the ride conductor kept yelling over the loud speaker... "PUT THE CAMERA DOWN!" It makes me laugh just thinking about how ridiculous it all was! But worth it to try and get a fun shot , right?

K: Niki was smart and stayed on the ground and got the better shots anyway! Ha! So not fair!

N: Can you find Kim in this picture?

N: Just walking down the boardwalk, there were so many opportunities to show what a cute couple Brett and Christina are!

N: Brett wins a prize for Christina-- what a guy!
K: He was pretty cocky.. ummm, I mean confident ... he was gonna win her the big prize.

K: But Christina was just as happy to get this cute little frog... ha ha ha!

K: I love the FUN CENTER in the back round of this image! I always forget how much I love walking on The Boardwalk.

N: I just love photo booths!

K: What I love about these two is they were not even taking real pictures... they were just making faces into the screen! So funny.

We left the Boardwalk, and moved down to the beach!
K: Brett and Christina were such a happy couple and smiled so easily, but they were able to turn on the hotness as well! Love this shot.

K: But they just couldn't help breaking down and letting those brilliant smiles break free!

N: This shot was taken on a boat launch we affectionately nicknamed Pigeon Poop Point.
K: They were so brave to sit down in that hot mess. But it was so worth it. I loved this light.

K: Where did they go?? Sun flare takes over! Have I ever mentioned I love sun flare? Maybe too much?

N: Even though the day was warm, the water was COLD! Christina and Brett were great sports, and got in the water with no hesitation. Thanks, you two!
K: Christina in that cute little sun dress was soo cold. Our couples will do anything for a great photograph!

K: I LOVE this shot Niki got right at the end of the session.

Hey Brett and Christina THANK YOU so much for doing everything we asked! You two were so much fun to hang out with. We cannot wait for the wedding!

Priscilla and Todd - Old School Style

Kim and I traveled east last week, to the town of Modesto, to photograph the wedding of Priscilla and Todd. It is so refreshing to be in a completely new environment-- a real treat for the eyes! As we drove downtown, we earmarked several spots we wanted to use, but when we arrived at Galletto Ristorante, 1930s-era art deco former bank, we realized that we could stay there all day, and never run out of great locations! Priscilla got dressed in the Wine Vault, originally the bank vault, now a wine cellar and private dining room.

We took Priscilla and her girls to the outdoor lounge area, right off the Bocce Ball court.

K: We had fun posing these girls. They had just the attitude to make it work!

N: I loved this wall-- covered with wine lables!
K: Loved this shot Niki got.

K: Love the shoes guys!

Priscilla and Todd decided to see each other before the ceremony, and do the bulk of their pictures beforehand. This is the first time they see each other. We often talk about how great it is to have both of us shooting a the same time-- here it is imperative!

N: I captured Priscilla coming out to the Arbor...

N: ...while Kim captures Todd's anticipation!
K: Todd kept saying "I'm gonna peak, I'm gonna peak!". Ha Ha.

Baby Cruz steals the show!

N: Before Cruz, these were the "babies"!
K: These dogs were so sweet.. how cute do they look with their suits on!

Cruz, Priscilla, and Todd during the ceremony.

Always a favorite-- coming back down the aisle!

We took the wedding party for a short walk to the Train Station.

N: How cool is this? Priscilla and Todd hop the fence to shoot on the train tracks!
K: She was brave, because if I remember right Niki almost bit it going over that wall! Ha Ha.

N: And Priscilla goes all out for us, by lying down on the tracks! She looks amazing!
K: Who does this? Priscilla and Todd were so darn cool! I got SO dirty laying down on the track, so you know that beautiful white dress was in trouble. But Priscilla just didn't care about the dirt. Love her!

K: I mean c'mon... how killer is this? Converse and purple kickin' heels! Love it.

Back to Galletto for some serious dancing!

N: Priscilla, Todd and their guests got down to tunes on vinyl-- totally old school!

N: Priscilla and her father took the floor for the traditional Father-Daughter Dance, and broke out into the Hustle! Watch out!
K: Now we know why she didn't care so much about the dirt. She knew she was going to change into this hot little cocktail dress... That girl and her dad GOT DOWN!

Priscilla and Todd, your wedding was off the hook! Thanks so much for sharing it with us!

Rebecca and Brian Get Married!

Last week, right between rainstorms, Kim and I traveled to the Bridges Golf Course in San Ramon, to photograph the joyful wedding of Rebecca and Brian. After days of heavy rain, the sun came out, the wind died down, and a perfect day unfolded.

Rebecca got ready, with help from her bridesmaids.

Rebecca's father arrived to greet Rebecca.

N: Rebecca and Brian decided to see each other prior to the ceremony. He was absolutely floored when he saw Rebecca for the first time!
K: I love how he reacted the first second he saw her... like she was a big super yummy surprise!

The ceremony took place on the green, overlooking the valley.

N: It was so much fun to shoot in this tunnel-- the light was perfect, and I love the strong lines.
K: When I saw this tunnel I was just so happy. There was such a cool edge to it and right in the middle of an upscale golf course.. gotta love that!

K: It was so amazing to be able to get so many different feels from just one spot. I really love shooting with Niki! One of these images above is shot by Kim and one by Niki.. can you guess who shot what?
K: Man all I can say is when we asked Rebecca to give it to us... she turned it on! Look at that stare. The girl has got some fire in her soul!

K: ...and just about the sweetest smile to boot. Can't beat that combo.

This cake was really incredible! All of the shells and pearls were edible!

N: These two are so full of joy-- always laughing! You can't help but smile, being around them.

K: Brian has the sweetest kids. This is Brian and his own daughter. I was feeling all emotional right about now.

K: Who Hoo ! Yummy light.
K: Rebecca and her father... Rebecca was feeling all emotional right about now.

What a wonderful time we had at this wedding. We thank you Rebecca and Brian for being such good souls and sharing is this day with us. We will remember it for a long time to come.

Melanie & David - Rain or Shine!

Kim and I traveled to Golden Gate Park on Valentine's Day to photograph Melanie and David. We first met the lovely Melanie at the Ritz Carlton show we did last year, and couldn't wait to photograph her and her fiance, David! The forecast called for rain, and we were prepared, but when we met up with our couple, we had amazing clouds and a bit of sun-- absolutely perfect!

We started at the De Young Museum, a fabulous modern structure-- our kind of place!
N: Kim took these amazing close up shots...

...while I took the "low and wide" angle.
K: I LOVED this part of the De Young. That corner made me happy! Such a yummy spot.

N: Kim always makes our brides lie down...ALWAYS! And Melanie was a great sport. Of course, I am glad she did or I couldn't have grabbed this shot!
K: Yea, this was right about the time I thought "shoot it quick... the lady working the door is giving us that funny look - like she was just about to come give us the heave ho!"
K: The reflection of the sky in the window was the coolest element. I was so focused on getting their faces I did not even see that! Thank goodness you were there! Ha ha.

N:I love how Kim shot through the trees to get this shot!
K: I love this shot because Melanie and David were both just a tiny bit shy and this spot felt so perfect for them.

We moved out to the plaza, and discovered some tunnels and gates! The light was fantastic!

N: Here we are, shooting at the same time...

K: Yummy gates. I love gates!

As we headed back to the main plaza, the sky clouded over and the rain started to fall. Melanie and David were up for anything-- so out came the umbrellas!

N: Kim set up this shot...

...while I snuck this one from the side.

N: The rain began to fall in earnest, but it just added to the feel of this shot on the green benches.
K: Niki set up this shot - and I just love the composition of the benches. Her shots are way better than what I got!

These columns are part of the historic Spreckels Bandshell, currently being renovated.

Just when the rain stopped, and our session was winding down, we discovered the trash bin/tour bus parking area! It never ceases to amaze me, that even when we are surrounded by postcard scenery we end up by the garbage cans!

Melanie and David, thanks for a fantastic shoot! Your September wedding at Liquid Sky, Half Moon Bay will surely be a highlight of our year!

Don't forget to leave a comment!
