Grace and Russ - A Lovely Day

Last week Kim and I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Grace and Russ, at the beautiful Los Gatos Hotel and Spa. It was a warm day-- absolutely gorgeous! Everything was perfect!

Grace meets us at the door to her suite, where she and her girls got ready...

...while Russ and the boys prepared downstairs.

Grace was radiant! Her is Kim's shot...

...while I catch her from the other side.

N: Gotta love those pink dresses!

K: Man Grace could turn it on! I love the feel of her stare in this image below.

The ceremony took place on the pool terrace. All eyes on Grace...

N: I got the wide shot of Grace embracing her father...

...and Kim got the close up. :)

Gorgeous floral by Crispy at Natalini Flowers.

K: The first dance always gets me... such a magical moment.
K: Niki and her shoe fetish again...

Grace and Russ, thanks so much for letting us in on your love story!

Emily & James - Super Sweet

Kim and I had the pleasure of meeting up with Emily and James in San Jose, to photograph their engagement session. They were sweet, fun, and absolutely made for each other! Not to mention good sports, as we asked them to do a variety of crazy stuff, as you will see.

We started off near Coleman Ave, in a light industrial area...

K: Emily had a look of mischief in her eyes that I LOVED!

...adjacent to a vacant lot with tall grass-- perfect!

N: Of course, Kim had Em and James lie down, right off the bat.
K: I mean c'mon how could I not?

K: Once again sun flare rules!! Have I ever mentioned I love sun flare?

N: Kim and I love this building-- it would make a great studio space. Hmmm...
K: This space could rock my world as a studio.

Next we traveled to Santana Row, and completely changed gears. Emily and James turned on the heat and gave us some really great shots!

K: Santana Row is one of those places where you have to be on the down low... otherwise they get mad if you are stopping traffic etc... So for these we were commando style.. We came, we found killer spots, we said hurry go right there ... look this way .. okay RUN! No just kidding.
Kinda ;) .

N: This was taken in Sino, a fabulous bar and restaurant, and the light was phenomenal. I couldn't ask for a sweeter spot!

K: Ummm... Hello Hotness.

N: Next time, we should start our session with a cocktail...

K: Not only do I ask our couples to lay down on the grown.... but pretty much anywhere. Here we are in a full bar at happy hour. So I said "Hey Em will you lay on top of James here on this bench in the middle of the bar so Niki can get a great shot of your shoes?"
And Em said "Heck yea!"
And James said "ummmmm... really?"
Ha ha ha!

N: Emily owns this spot!
K: Emily said .. so should I do this? I think she might have been joking.. and I was all about that pose!

Emily and James you two rocked this session. You came ready for fun, and really gave us all your charm and joy. Thank you! We cannot wait until the wedding.
xoxo

Kristi & Frank - Smokin' Hot!

It was sunny and cool last Friday, when Kim and I met up with Kristi and Frank in Palo Alto. And all I can say is WOW! We had such an amazing time! Besides being easy on the eyes, these two brought some real fire to our session-- it was fantastic!

We started out on the Palo Alto Bay Lands. The wind was whipping, but Kristi and Frank were great sports, diving right in to our session.

N: We climbed through a field of licorice plants for this next set. Kim sets up this shoot in full sun...

...while I'm shooting from behind, into the sun.
K: I love the shot above. It has such a "not an engagement shoot" feel to it. To me it feels like we are trekking through the jungle and they don't quite know where they are, but they are going to be beautiful while they search for there way home... ha ha my imagination some times gets away from me.

N: I love this shot. Frank and Kristi could tell a love story with just their hands!

We left the wetlands, and headed downtown. We just strolled, stopping every time we spotted something cool or interesting.

K: Kristi and Frank brought so much to this shoot. We often would put them into a pose and without any direction they brought a sense of high fashion to the image.

N: I love all the texture and subtle colors of this location. Kristi's scarf picked up all the blue and grey colors in the peeling paint.

K: I swear I kept thinking we could be doing a photoshoot with professional models!

K: Love this fruit stand. This was a pretty busy street and as much as we try to stay on the down low... we sure did stop traffic in this location. I love that they were willing to sit in the street where cars were coming and going with force!

N:What great sports! How many people will lie down on the sidewalk for you?
K: And look so cool doing it.. and kiss!

N: This is one of those unexpected surprises that happen when we go strolling-- we discovered this train station elevator, and got inspired by the windows in the frosted glass. Of course, Frank and Kristi brought just the right attitude to make it all work!

This was taken in the bicycle under pass...
K: As usual I was laying on the ground for may of these shots... and I was SURE I was going to get run over! Niki would say "Okay I'll watch for bikes so no worries get your shot"... and then she would get inspired by Kristi and Frank and start shooting and forget to watch! HA HA! Luckily I still have all my limbs.

N: Kim sets up the off camera flash for some added drama. Very cool!

All I can say is this session was so inspirational. Niki and I left saying to each other.. "EVERYTHING we shot was so good !" It has everything to do with Kristi and Franks willingness to really give themselves to us without reservation. It also helped that Kristi looks like model! Both Kristi and Frank had a fire in them that came roaring through the camera.
Kristi and Frank thank you so much for one of the best sessions!
We can't wait for your wedding.

Liz and Phayong - Spring in the City

Kim and I traveled to the city last weekend to meet up with sweethearts Liz and Phayong. It was a gorgeous day, and you could just feel Spring in the air. We started at the De Young Museum, in the heart of Golden Gate Park.

N: The light was so pretty-- all soft and golden!

N: I love these benches, in front of the Spreckles Band Shell.

N: Yea for cherry blossoms!

K: Phayong was a little shy, and I just love how Liz was able to bring out the fun in him.
K: I think she may have tickled him here.. soo cute!

K: I love this tunnel.. but oooh it did not smell good that day ;)!

We left the park and headed west toward the ocean. Our first stop was the Cliff House-- so many beautiful places to shoot!

K: Oh my gosh... I just love the way Liz is looking at the camera here. She kinda just melted into Phayong.

K: These vents were cool. I had to lay down on my belly for this shot, and there was a window to a cafe full of people directly above Liz and Phayong. They could only see me and not Liz and Phayong... you know they were thinking "What is that crazy chick doing lying on the ground with the wind whipping around her?" Ha Ha.

The wind picked up, and it was pretty darn cold, but Liz and Phayong were great sports, hiking down into the Sutro Bath ruins.

Liz and Phayong, thank you so much for being such great sports and doing all the crazy stuff we asked you to do! We are looking forward to your May wedding!
